A natural substitute for expensive syrups!
Coughing is a natural method by which the body tries to remove mucus or phlegm accumulated in the lungs. A cold and a cough may be harmless, but constant sneezing and coughing can be very disturbing. Coughing can also irritate people around us and interfere with our concentration.
Children are more sensitive to colds and coughs because they have a weak immune system.
Cough syrups are tasty and sweet, but they block signals in the brain that stimulate a strong cough. Almost all syrups contain dextromethorphan and codeine. They make you fall asleep quickly but come with a range of side effects such as headaches, drowsiness, and heart palpitations.
Our suggestion is to try natural remedies instead of cough syrups!
Honey and ginger compress
Honey is a remedy for many diseases. It includes general detoxification and treatment for dry skin. However, honey can also be used to soothe colds due to its ability to remove mucus from the lungs. Honey is a safe remedy for both children and adults.
How to prepare a honey-ginger compress?
It’s very quick and easy to prepare, and you only need a few simple ingredients:
- Coconut oil
- Honey
- Gauze
- Towel
- Bandage
- Flour
Preparation:
- Mix honey and flour together, but try not to touch it directly.
- Add a bit of coconut oil and a bit of fresh ginger juice, then mix again.
- Pour the paste onto a napkin and place it on the gauze.
- Place the compress on the back or chest and fix it well with a bandage.
- Then put on pajamas and you can go to sleep.
If you want to use this remedy for a child, make sure to apply it 2–3 hours before bedtime and remove it before the child falls asleep.
An adult can sleep with it overnight, but be aware that it might make you sweat a bit.
This treatment has no side effects, but be cautious if using it for children, as the compress might irritate their delicate skin.
Ginger, like honey, is also a strong remedy for cough. It soothes sore throat and also reduces swelling.
Don’t forget to share this with your friends and family — you can help them get rid of cough and phlegm in one night!
